Towards resilient industrial water systems: integrating alternative water resources

The increasing pressure on drinking water and groundwater resources calls for new strategies for industrial water supply. Alternative sources such as (saline) surface water, effluent, and rainwater offer opportunities to increase water availability, but also raise questions about quality, costs, organization, and regulation. In this session, we explore how these sources can be applied in practice, based in part on ongoing initiatives and research. We will address technological possibilities, economic considerations, and governance issues, and discuss how integrated decisions can be made across different regional and sectoral contexts.
